She started to sob– I mean, horrible, heartbroken sobbing. She put her head on my shoulder and I held her.
Fish gathered to look at us– a school of barracudas, some curious marlins.
“Scram!” I told them.

Percy Jackson Director on Nathan Fillion, Hermes, and the Firefly Reference
If you’ve seen Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, you probably got a kick out of Nathan Fillion as Hermes, especially when he made a reference to his very popular but very short-lived television show, Firefly.
Director Thor Freudenthal recently talked to Hypable about how that role came to be and why Nathan Fillion was the perfect Hermes:
“I worked with a great writer on this film, and I told him that we would cast Nathan. And he instantly went back to the computer and revised lines. He actually wrote a very direct Firefly reference into it that had Hermes say, ‘Hey, the best show ever is Firefly.’ And that really takes you out of the movie. So while it was a great sort of general direction to go in, Nathan came up with ‘Greatest television show ever so of course, canceled.’”
The director said that Fillion, who plays Hermes, brought a lot of what fans already love about the actor to Sea of Monsters. “He’s got razor sharp comedic timing. He does a lot of his own tweaking of dialogue and writing. Literally you can tell him ‘Okay you have to cross from here to there, but we don’t have enough words to fill that.’ So he’s like, ‘Okay I’ve got something’ and then it’s the funniest line in the scene.”

Alexandra Daddario on Annabeth being a “Better Friend” in Sea of Monsters
Alexandra Daddario talked to MTV about the changes in her character, Annabeth Chase, between the first and second films.
“I think in the first movie she’s tougher and she has more of a guard up. And I think as far as her relationship with Percy is concerned, she wants him to prove himself to her more,” Daddario said. “In this one, I think she’s a better friend. I think she’s let him in. She’s more vulnerable, and I think it’s sort of a sign of her growing up that she’s able to sort of show her weaknesses a little more. And I liked playing that.”
“You see more of what makes her tick, and when you find out Percy has a half-brother, she really doesn’t like him because he’s a Cyclops,” Daddario explained. “Not to give too much away, but I’m sure everyone’s read the books. And you sort of find out why that is, and you sort of find out where she comes from and who she was, and I think she learns a lot from her dislike of this person. She sort of finds out that everyone’s not so bad. It was interesting to play this more vulnerable, sweet side of her and see what makes her who she is.”

Author Rick Riordan Takes a Break from Torturing, er, Writing PERCY JACKSON To Update Fans
Rick Riordan (last named pronounced like “fireman” but with ‘R’ and ‘d’ replacing ‘f’ and ‘m’) took time out of his uber-busy schedule to update his readers on the upcoming release of House of Hades, the fourth book out of a planned five books in The Heroes of Olympus series, and his 2013 book tour. Read the highlights below:
On the House of Hades release:
The House of Hades will be released in the UK, US, and Canada on Tuesday, October 8! I have confirmation it will also be released in Brazil this day. I believe the English language edition will also be available that day (or soon after) in most countries that usually get English editions, meaning Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and the Philippines, but I have no direct confirmation about that. As always, you should check with booksellers in your area to ask them when the book will be available.
So please, if you happen to get an early copy of The House of Hades, don’t spoil the story for everyone else.
When the book does come out on Oct. 8, I hope you guys enjoy it. There will be some eye-popping surprises. I promise you that. But after you’ve read the book, I think those surprises will make total sense to you.
On the book tour:
I’ll be visiting eight cities in the US this time. All the events are sold out except for the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville. The only reason that one isn’t sold out is because they aren’t selling tickets in advance. You just have to show up and hope you get a seat. If you’re planning on seeing me in Nashville, my advice is GET THERE EARLY.
Due to the size of the crowd, there won’t be a signing line, so leave your books at home. There will still be signed copies of The House of Hades available, but I won’t be able to personalize your books and meet each of you individually. As much as I’d like to, when you’ve got an intimate crowd of one thousand or more, it just can’t be done in the time that we have.
On other projects:
I’ve finished work on Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, which is a collection of the original Greek myths told in Percy Jackson’s point of view. Our favorite Seaweed Brain will tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the major gods – the good stuff, the bad stuff, and especially the embarrassing stuff – all in his trademark snarky sarcastic way (which of course bears no resemblance to the waythis author thinks.) Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods will be released August 2014.
The title of the fifth book will be revealed at the end of The House of Hades, the same way I’ve revealed all the other titles. Book five is next on my writing schedule, which is why I have to make the tour short so I can get back home and get to work!
After book five of Heroes is complete, I will at long last launch into my Norse mythology series. The first volume in that series is scheduled for 2015.
